A new pedestrian and cycling overpass will safely connect the Galloping Goose Regional Trail through Colwood now that the City has been successful in earning a $3.6M grant from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

At 1:47 am on Thursday morning, Colwood Fire received a call reporting a house on fire in the 3300-block of St. Troy Place in Colwood.

Early reports indicated that the house was on fire and occupants may still be inside. The first arriving Colwood engine was on scene within seven minutes of the call, along with View Royal and Langford firefighters.

You may see the Colwood Parks team in Havenwood Park on Friday, April 1, 2022 doing some Urban Forest Management work planned in collaboration with Habitat Acquisition Trust. They will also address hazardous trees near trails that connect to Wishart Road, including Applegate Trail and the Regency Trail.

Winter weather is tough on roadways, and Ocean Boulevard in Colwood takes an extra beating with storm surges sending salt water up onto the road and parking areas.

The Colwood Public Works team is preparing to grade and level the parking areas along the beach on Ocean Boulevard to improve accessibility for visitors and address drainage issues.

Work is scheduled for March 31 through April 1st.

If you are visiting the beach on these days, expect some parking areas to be blocked off for this important work.

Colwood is seeking input from residents to better understand where and how encounters with rabbits affect community members, to inform decisions about whether some form of management is needed.

West Shore Parks & Recreation is calling for Artists Expressions of Interest.

Local artists are encouraged to submit an expression of interest to design a piece of artwork which will enhance and provide vibrancy to the new program spaces.

VICTORIA, B.C. – The 47th edition of the Greater Victoria Flower Count ended on March 16, 2022. Community and elementary school engagement were strong with 27,875,292,158 blossoms counted over the week-long event.

This is a massive bouquet Greater Victorians are sending to the rest of Canada as COVID-19 pandemic restrictions ease and people begin to travel again.

During spring break and continuing through the fall, construction will begin on a signalized intersection and a transit exchange at Metchosin Road and Latoria Boulevard in Colwood’s Royal Bay neigbourhood. These planned upgrades are triggered by current and future growth in Royal Bay and Royal Beach to enhance safety and support a range of transportation options whether you are walking, cycling, using transit, or driving.

Have a great idea to enhance places in Colwood? 

The Create Places Grant is back again this year and we’re looking for great ideas from community members like you to bring new energy to spaces in Colwood. The City is awarding up to $5,000 to be split between successful applicants to help make placemaking projects come to life. 

As a seaside community surrounded by nature, we can all understand the need to address climate change and plan for impacts to our community. The City is developing a Low Carbon Resilience Climate Action Plan which will be our pathway as we prepare and manage climate change impacts.

Help keep Colwood clean and safe

The City of Colwood Public Works Department works hard to keep our city clean, safe and running efficiently. One way they do this is by offering a Clean Up program at City Hall. 

After being deferred in 2020 and 2021 to protect public health and maintain affordability during the pandemic, the Colwood Clean Up is back!

Today, Colwood Mayor Rob Martin and Royal Bay Director of Development, Ben Mycroft from GableCraft Homes cut the ribbon to officially open the new public washroom building at Meadow Park Green in Royal Bay.

The washroom is a beautifully desgined public facility constructed by GableCraft Homes as part of the development plan, featuring automatic lighting, a fold-down baby change table, fountains for both humans and dogs and wheelchair accessibility. Landscaping enhancements will be completed this spring.

Increasing volunteer demands and pressures

Today’s volunteer firefighters experience higher pressures with steadily increasing provincial training standards and calls for service, in addition to increasing time constraints of personal, family and work commitments.
