Warfield Newsletter: Regional Solid Waste Loan AAP on Feb 17, 2022

An Alternative Approval Process (AAP) is open to eligible RDKB electors until March 21, 2022.

The AAP will determine if the RDKB will use long or short-term borrowing to finance a $4,600,000.00 ($4.6 million) loan to upgrade the McKelvey Creek Regional Landfill and purchase organics processing equipment such as a wood grinder and/or a shredder.

The RDKB must borrow funds in order to upgrade the landfill, which will become a transfer station for organic materials collected through the Green Bin Program. The RDKB’s 2005 Solid Waste Management Plan committed the regional district to implement organics diversion programs throughout the region. These measures will help keep organic materials out of our landfills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which is important for our environment.

The upgrades will also improve the site to enable to us to better serve our users in a more efficient manner. A second weigh scale will be installed and the recycling depot will be relocated for improved access.

Staff have been directed to proceed with these projects. The question for electors is: how do you wish to fund them?

The RDKB will hold a virtual open house at 6 pm on Thursday, February 17, 2022 to discuss the project. Electors are encourage to attend.

Warfield Newsletter: Recreational Burning Survey Until Apr 04, 2022

The Village of Warfield Council is considering the development of regulations that would permit (residential) recreational burning.

Responses to the survey questions will guide Council’s future decision making when it comes to this issue. Council is hoping for a strong response from the community and will use the survey information as a guide when considering future regulations and whether or not to proceed with a bylaw or to prohibit open burning entirely. It will only take a few minutes of your time to complete the survey and your input is very important.

“Recreational Burning” as referenced in the survey means a small controlled and properly contained fire that would be the equivalent to a campfire. Residential burning does not include the burning of yard waste such as leaves or any other types of open burning.
