This post is to showcase general info as to the creation of this project & denote those that come to help shape it, I have noted many aspect of society that I hope to shine a light on & help reshape going forward, many challenges ahead. Regarding the beginnings of this project in particular, I met an older lady a short while before this website came about, she lived in a different municipality as to myself in BC, she had taken issue with her local mayor, I enquired if I could review policy on the issue she brought forth, she declined stating she felt the system in place didn’t serve the publics interest, this website came about to help bring additional systems & tools to better serve the public interest, far more tools & etiquette are being designed, then what this website will launch with.

Over time I hope to work along side peers on many different aspects in relation to this project, I will attempt to record & link their participation in this post below, please keep in mind that all peers, be they developers, artists, writers, or volunteers, will hold their own opinions on any given topic and as individuals should be respected as such & never lumped along side the project or others that look to contribute in good faith. If any topic or matter present on this website is ever seen as contentious & related with this project, please keep in mind everyone’s both personal & professional individuality & that no partisanship is set forth in both the projects goal, or should be the intent of ones efforts here, we are here in good faith to bring forth our best research & alternatives, be it opinion or solution, as for the betterment of all.

The site will look to host tools & etiquette to broach most any topic appropriately, however understanding in relation to tact & appropriate insight of subject matter may vary, such will be weighed most carefully, though a core tenant is freedom of speech & that too must be respected. In any such pursuit of this nature with peers, we at times must constantly remind ourselves of the golden rule, which can especially be hard when anything proposed is seen as ignored, we must all try our best to not take such personally, granted it it can tough at times, feel free to reach out via the contact feature if you’d like to vent. Be mindful that not all people on the internet look to join a community of peers in earnest or that in relation to some topics their understanding is shaped by dark experiences that can often be related with society as a whole, which again we are looking to help reshape together. Hopefully the measures & etiquette designed will help avoid most types of contention to be had here, it is also hoped that those capable can lead in good faith for the betterment of us all.

Peers, professionals of all types that have contributed to this website include:

Some of the updates to the site over time have included replacing the automated youtube links associated with the videos so as the videos have to be clicked on first, made a searchable table out of the municipality list based on feedback that can also be sorted alphabetically & by population. Changed up the British Columbia flag so as the text was easier to read based on feedback. On April 08, 2022 I added a link to the bottom of every page next to the twitter link that once you click on it you find a page with a button that copies the last url you were on & provides a link to the Google url translate page that is setup for French, English, & Spanish. Much more planned to be added to the website.

Well creating Municipal Watch BC, had a good laugh at a few points brought up in #285 of The Tim Dillon Show:

Lastly, I drew inspiration from Justin Mcelroy’s song, though wanted to leave one more song by Coldplay that I had found inspirational:

The mission of Municipal Watch BC is to try to provide the British Columbia community better tools for interacting with our politicians such as contact details, forms, different types of feeds, a place for good faith discussions on either what is being brought forth by our local leaders from either our municipalities in the newsletters they share or from the bills & discussions our local MP in Ottawa bring forth. Along with a place to study etiquette on accessing & distributing information, in the future this will also become a place to study travel details throughout BC along with local historical context plus highlight aspects such as municipal services amalgamation & cultural celebrations.

A community goal here is to foster open discussion, identify policy on the books that doesn’t serve the public interest, and discuss the development of new concepts and systems that will better serve communities. It is hoped we can remain objective enough as peers even in disagreement on a subject to look at discussions with an open mind for alternatives or compromises on most any topic that can work to the benefit of us all, if it is not clear on how we can best proceed, we can place subjects on hold and research other topics that may require further research of our own, examination of additional approaches, opinions & solutions. Be willing to ask questions and seek answers together.

We are more than whatever political party we last voted for, humanity can flourish beyond many of the constructs set out before us, let us now prove it.

From time to time this spot may be updated to reflect current projects or goals being undertaken to improve the tools that are provided on this website, thank you for reading the websites mission statement.

Currently a few more municipalities are being added to the feed & I will look into a means to streamline this service, the next project planned is to make a page that works with twitter for the benefit of the community.
